COLLINGWOOD defender Rhyce Shaw has been traded to the Sydney Swans.

The Swans have given up a third-round NAB AFL Draft pick No.46 in return for Shaw and round-four pick No. 61.

After a very quiet trade week, the Shaw exchange kicked off a flurry of action with the Magpies securing Lion Anthony Corrie and Bulldog Farran Ray heading to St Kilda.

Shaw, the son of former Magpie captain Ray Shaw and brother of defender Heath, was a member of the club's leadership group this season and has played 94 games in his seven-year career.

Taken as a father-son selection by Collingwood in the 1999 NAB AFL Draft (No.18 overall), Shaw played 20 of 24 games in 2008, including the club's two finals, averaging more than 20 disposals.

Perhaps more important when his future was being considered at seasons end was the 26-year-old's role in Collingwood's major off-field incident of the year.

Shaw was only a minor participant in the controversy that saw his younger brother Heath crash a car while drunk and then lie about his and teammate Alan Didak's involvement to club officials, but football staff may have taken a dim view of the fact the elder Shaw was drinking while injured.
