THE IN-FORM Sydney Swans will not be taking bottom side Melbourne lightly when the teams clash at Maunka Oval on Sunday, according to the Swans’ coach Paul Roos.

On paper the clash is a mis-match.

The fourth-placed Swans are on a roll with five wins in a row while the Demons have only won once this season, against Fremantle in round seven.

The Swans easily accounted for the Demons in Canberra last season, winning by 48 points in round 18 at Manuka.

"I don't think they'll disrespect the team they're playing against," Roos said.

"It's more a case of them [the players] not getting ahead of themselves and worry about what they're going to do next week as opposed to who we're playing this week.

"But I hope they're ready to play and I think they will be."

The bye follows this weekend’s match and comes at a potentially disruptive time for the Sydney Swans, who are 8-3 (with one draw) this season an have been on a roll since May.

After the bye, they face a blockbuster clash with Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

"This week is obviously important but it is very hard to keep winning on a consistent basis,” Roos said.

"So in terms of the bye I think everyone looks forward to the it regardless of whether you've won four, five or six in a row or lost one.

"It's good to have [the bye], players get tired, they have injuries. They do need to regroup. So regardless of what happens on Sunday, it comes at a good time.

"We need to win on Sunday to take advantage of some good form and improvement from many of our players, including our younger players.

"So if we can get over the line on Sunday and we can go into the break on nine and a half [wins] I think everyone will be reasonably happy."

On the issue of a twilight grand final, Roos supports the current format. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," Roos said.
