Speaking ahead of the club’s first round NAB Cup clash with Geelong, last year's Syd Barker Medal winner knows there’ll be many ups and downs over the coming months, but is confident with his young teammates.
"I think Brad (Scott) said it pretty well when he said "we've got no limits". It's hard to say where we are going to finish, I think we'll get a better idea over the next couple of weeks, but with the group we've got we know we're going to be up and down from week to week because of the nature of the group. But I would have thought we'd be pushing for a top eight for sure," Swallow said.
Now in his fifth season at North Melbourne, Swallow can't wait to get back out on the field and experience the new game style implemented by Scott.
"We're really looking forward to it, Brad's been a breath of fresh air through the club. He's come in and given us a lot of direction and just tweaked the way we are going to play so really looking forward to getting out there.
"We'll try and press up a lot and turn the footy over as close to goal as possible. A couple of clubs did that last year so we're looking to try and replicate that."
An injury interrupted pre-season has done little to dampen the spirits of the West Australian who returned to full training just before Christmas. Swallow says he’s now looking to back up his strong performance in 2009 alongside a new look midfield.
"It's going to be a big challenge to try and back it up from last year, but I'm really looking forward to try and lead this young group.
"We've got Jack Ziebell coming through, Liam Anthony, Ryan Bastinac, Ben Cunnington and these young kids who are in their first or second years, so it's exciting and hopefully we can take them places."
The Roos are set to blood up to three debutants for Sunday's match against the Cats with Robbie Tarrant, Marcus White and Ben Speight all named in an unplaced 29-man squad.
