HAWTHORN has strengthened its ties with women's sport, announcing a new partnership with Monash Storm that will see it compete in the Victorian Netball League.
The Storm will be rebranded as 'The Hawks' and will enter Championship, division one and under-19s sides in the state's premier netball competition this year.
The deal follows fellow AFL clubs Collingwood and Greater Western Sydney fielding sides in Super Netball, the sport's national league.
Hawthorn chief executive Justin Reeves said he was excited to deepen the club's commitment to community and women's sport.
"We are more than just a football club at Hawthorn," Reeves said.
"This partnership is a fantastic opportunity to venture into a new community sporting code and display our commitment and investment into women's sport, in addition to what we are already doing in football with our VFL and VFLW side."
The Hawks eventually want to have an AFL Women's team after missing out last year on one of the League's new licenses.
