Ross Lyon has admitted he has a tough decision ahead of him this afternoon when he and the Saints’ coaching staff sit down to finalise the team for Saturday night’s match against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

With Justin Koschitzke unavailable for three weeks, there is a key position up for grabs in the forward line. But Lyon admits the final training session this afternoon will help them make that final call.

“We’ve got some strong thoughts, but we’ll see everyone train. Because it’s so even their training performance might just see the nod given.”

Lyon later explained;

“We’ve got some youthful young forwards with Cahill, Lynch, Stanley and Heyne, so it’s a matter of whether it will be one of those players, or whether Gardiner or MvEvoy goes forward, or maybe Pattison.”

After a strong Round 1 match in Sydney over the weekend, Lyon is feeling positive about the weekend’s match up, despite being narrowly defeated by the Roos at Etihad Stadium in Round 21 last year by 5 points.

“We’re coming off a really strong win interstate. We’re fit and pretty much available, and we’re looking forward to the game.”

“They’ve got some experience and really good players, as well as some youthful exuberance so it’s going to be a challenge.”

Coming into only his second AFL match as Senior Coach, North Melbourne’s Brad Scott is sure to have conjured up some new tactics for the Kangaroos, but Lyon hopes there wont be too many surprises.

“You take an interest in Clubs that have got new coaches, watch the (match) footage and take whatever clues you can.” Lyon said.

Lyon was also able to give Saints fans a small insight into the progress of Sam Fisher, who has started rehabilitation this week after an ankle injury.

“He’s going through rehab…there’s been no hiccups but we always knew it was going to be a four or five week injury.”
