National Volunteer Week runs from 9-15 May and aims to raise awareness about the important contribution volunteers make to our communities. Did you know that Australian volunteers give more than 700 million hours of their time and effort a year?

The great thing about volunteering is that it’s a gift that gives back, especially for kids. Not only do they have a chance to contribute to their community, but in return they can broaden their horizons, develop important skills and values, and meet new friends.

This month we’re focusing being safe while volunteering with tips for parents in Volunteers Stay Safe and kids in Safety First When Volunteering. We also look at one of the big health issues for kids and how teachers, parents and students can work together to deal with it in Obesity Is A Community Issue.
