CARLTON has re-signed 21-year-old midfielder Bryce Gibbs to a new two-year contract, keeping him out of the clutches of Gold Coast.

Gibbs had been mentioned as a Gold Coast target, but the Blues always hinted that the former No.1 draft pick was close to signing a new deal.

Gibbs said he was pleased to have made the commitment to Carlton well before his existing contract finished at the end of this season and scoffed at suggestions he was ever going to leave the club.

"Why would I want to leave Carlton? I value my friendships, I am playing with a team that is committed to working together to achieve success and we train at the best facilities, as good as any in the world," Gibbs told carltonfc.com.au.

"Carlton is my home and I am thrilled to be a part of the Carlton Football Club and it is my aim to play my entire AFL career at Carlton."

Gibbs is now in his fourth season with the Blues and finished third in last year's club best and fairest.

Carlton's football operations manager Steven Icke said that Gibbs' re-signing was a step towards premiership success.

“Bryce believes in what Carlton is doing and where it’s heading and he has a genuine love for the football club," Icke said.

"On that basis it was good to complete the negotiations early so that he can concentrate on his continued development as a senior player fired with an ambition, commitment and determination to help Carlton get back to being a strong, powerful and consistently successful football team that’s going to participate in finals for years to come.”
