The AFL and the Sydney Swans have today announced the NSW locations for 2010 AFL Community Camps, with the Sydney Swans to visit regional communities across the state in the first week of December.

Across the two day camps the players will participate in a range of activities including local school and hospital visits and clinics for the youngsters,  AFL supporters and coaches.

As the Swans did last year, they have opted to partake in the community camp visits in December but in a change to previous years, they are dividing the players into groups to enable them to visit more communities across NSW, with 12 regions covered in total.

Sydney Swans Chief Executive Andrew Ireland believes that the change in format would provide a far more valuable experience for both players and communities.

“NSW is such a vast state and there are so many towns and areas we would love to visit so dividing the team into groups of three and four and being able to get to various locations really made sense to us.”

Now in its eighth year, the AFL Community Camp program will see all 16 AFL Clubs travel to regional and remote communities across Australia, giving locals the opportunity to experience AFL at the highest level.

General Manager for AFL NSW/ACT Dale Holmes said that the annual community camps are always a great opportunity for the players to get out and meet and enjoy the communities in the regional areas.

“For many of the families in regional NSW the opportunity to get  to Sydney or Melbourne to see a big game is very rare, so being able to have access to the players across the camp period is I feel vital for the AFL in the regional areas,” Holmes said.
