DEFENDER Ben Stratton will miss Hawthorn's cut-throat semi-final next week after he suffered a right hamstring strain against Richmond on Thursday night at the MCG.
The backman came off late in the third quarter of the first qualifying final and spent the rest of the game on the interchange bench with ice applied to the back of his right leg.
However, Hawthorn director of high performance Andrew Russell said the 29-year-old could return if the Hawks progressed beyond its clash with either Melbourne or Geelong.

"Unfortunately today (Friday) the scans confirmed Ben has suffered a low-grade hamstring strain," Russell told hawthornfc.com.au.
"Ben won't take part in our match next week and will be a test beyond that, depending on how our finals campaign progresses."

Coach Alastair Clarkson was hopeful Ryan Schoenmakers would be available for the second week of the finals after the key forward was a late withdrawal on Thursday night with Achilles soreness.
"He's had a grumbly Achilles for the best part of 18 months. It's just a management thing and sometimes it's good as gold. We thought with the week off he would be no drama and he trained throughout the course of the week," Clarkson said.
"But he just didn't think he could get through a full game, so hopefully he'll be right for next week but we'll just have to wait and see how he responds.
"Tendon injuries can sometimes be very, very grumbly and he's had trouble with that on and off for the past two years."
Clarkson was unsure about the extent of a hip complaint suffered by Blake Hardwick in the third term.
The defender was assessed in the rooms but came back on to the ground soon after and finished the match.
