The Swans trailed Eastlake by 11 points at quarter time but led at all remaining changes despite losing Ed Barlow at quarter time with a hamstring injury and Trent Dennis-Lane at halftime because he was emergency for the seniors.
Byron Sumner was the Swans’ best spending time on the ball, at halfback and half forward while Daniel Currie, who rucked all day, was also impressive.
Lewis Johnston kicked five goals from centre half forward, Nathan Gordon collected 32 possessions playing on ball and Patrick Veszpremi, who played on ball and at half forward, had 26 disposals. Midfielder Dylan McNeil ended the game with 27 possessions.
The Swans opened the game with a goal through Veszpremi at the three minute mark after a mark 50 metres out but Eastlake replied with two goals in a row. Dennis-Lane was the Swans’ next goal kicker kicking a goal on the run from the boundary.
After Eastlake kicked the next three goals, Dennis-Lane kicked a smart goal over his shoulder after some good play from Barlow from halfback. The last goal of the quarter came from Johnston after a long kick from Veszpremi.
The teams were equal at the stoppages but some sloppy skills from the Swans players were costly.
The Swans rallied at quarter time and kicked the first three goals of the second term. The first came from McNeil after a mark 50 metres out while Gordon kicked the second on the run from the boundary after some good ruck work from Currie.
At the seven minute mark Dennis-Lane goaled for the third time after a 50 metre penalty that put him in the goal square. Two minutes later Eastlake kicked their first goal for the quarter.
The next 10 minutes of the quarter saw the Swans pile on another three goals through Sumner, Dennis-Lane and McNeil. After Eastlake kicked their final goal of the half, Johnston kicked two more for the Swans before the end of the quarter. His first bounced through at a right angle after he kicked over his shoulder and the second came after a mark on the boundary 50 metres from goal.
The second quarter was a strong one from the Swans. They were dominating both the clearances and contested possessions. They led Eastlake by 28 points at half time.
Eastlake opened the third term with two quick goals but Gary Rohan replied with his first goal after a mark.
At the twelve minute mark Eastlake goaled again but the Swans kicked the next three goals of the quarter. At the 17 minute mark Veszpremi goaled after bursting out of a pack at a clearance 50 metres from goal, scholarship player Jackson Potter goaled on the run and Veszpremi kicked his third from 50 metres after a mark.
Eastlake ended the term with their twelfth goal and at the break the Swans led by 29 points.
Eastlake kicked the first goal of the final term but it was quickly followed by another goal from Johnston after a 50 metre penalty for a marking infringement. At the seven minute mark Eastlake had their second for the term.
The Swans then piled on four goals. Veszpremi kicked his fourth over his shoulder, Johnston kicked his fifth, McNeil goaled after a mark, and top-up player Joe Britton kicked a goal while lying down after being knocked over.
The Swans Reserves will now face fifth placed Queanbeyan next Saturday, August 7, at the SCG at 10:50am. The game is the curtain raiser to the Swans and Hawthorn game at 2.10pm.
