All the teams for Round 13 in the Smithy’s VFL.

GWS foundation player Adam Kennedy and important North Melbourne key defender Griffin Logue will make their long-awaited returns from knee reconstructions in their teams’ big Smithy’s VFL games this weekend.

And Werribee has landed a big signing on the cusp of clearances closing, with former Collingwood AFL wingman Jay Rantall joining the club just before the clearance deadline.

Kennedy, 31, hasn’t played since hurting his knee in his 153rd AFL game against the Brisbane Lions in Round 6 last year, with a hamstring injury pushing his absence out to 427 days.

he finally suits up against the Swans in State League Sydney Derby 39 at Blacktown International Sports Park on Saturday.

He is one of five huge changes for the Giants, with 2022 No.1 draft pick Aaron Cadman coming down for his first VFL game of the year as Max Gruzewski earns an AFL debut, while rising star Darcy Jones (hamstring) also comes back from injury.

Last year’s No.17 draft pick, Tasmanian swingman James Leake, has finally overcome a quad injury to make his VFL and Giants debut, while off-season recruit Harper Montgomery, the son of assistant coach Brett, has recovered from a broken leg suffered against Sandringham way back in Round 3.

The Swans have swung a selection surprise of their own, with Charlie McCartin, 25, the 195cm middle brother of Paddy and Tom, to make his VFL debut after dominating for Colac League club Lorne in his return to footy after seven years away.

Manly-Warringah product and Academy member Cooper McClennan will also play his first game, with Robbie Fox and Matt Roberts trying to win their spots back in a powerful AFL team that will feature Caiden Cleary for the first time.

Logue hurt his knee in the Kangaroos’ AFL Round 17 loss to Geelong last year, with his return coming two weeks short of a full year on the sidelines, and coinciding with luckless Brayden George starting that journey for the second time.

Logue will be joined by No.2 draft pick Colby McKercher, who will also make his VFL debut after missing six weeks with a foot injury, against Casey Demons at Casey Fields, with the Demons regaining Josh Schache from his own foot problem for his 50th VFL game.

Rantall played five VFL games for Footscray last year but has been plying his trade back home at South Warrnambool, with his late signing a major boost for a Tigers team that saw Kye Declase depart the club earlier this month.

He makes his Werribee debut in the Western Derby against Williamstown at Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday, with ruckman Sam Conway being recalled to replace the suspended Kobe Annand, while Stefan Radovanovic will miss but has escaped serious damage to the ankle he hurt a fortnight ago.

The Seagulls will be without star defender Fin O’Dwyer (knee) and high-flyer Nick Ebinger (shoulder) with short-term injuries, calling up West Australian forward Josh Browne and 198cm backman Zach Pritchard for his first game of the year.

Geelong and Port Melbourne have rung the changes for their clash at ETU Stadium on Sunday, but it is the Cats who will be significantly stronger with AFL holdovers Shaun Mannagh and Mitch Hardie returning, Shannon Neale and Rhys Stanley selected to drop down and Toby Conway and one-time mid-season draft fancy Tobyn Murray back from injury.

The Borough will finally unveil Melbourne recruit Kye Turner and also gets Dan McKenzie, Tobe Watson, Kyle Viccars and Jack Johnston back from injury.

However, the bad luck continues as Rourke Smith has been ruled out for six weeks with a shoulder injury, while Robbie McComb, Cam Wild and Oscar Roberts are all hurt and Anthony Anastasio is unavailable.

Gold Coast has given a debut to highly-rated Academy forward Zeke Uwland, the brother of AFL defender Bodhi, against Essendon at People First Stadium on Saturday after he starred for both the Suns Academy and the Allies.

The Suns made nine changes from the draw with Sandringham before the bye, with all being key players, including possible top five pick and 2023 premiership player Leo Lombard for his first VFL game of the year, No.3 pick Jed Walter, star ruckman Ned Moyle, former captain Sean Lemmens, ball magnet Brayden Fiorini, the experienced Nick Holman and youngster Oskar Faulkhead.

The Bombers lose mid-season draftee Saad El-Hawli for six weeks with syndesmosis and Sam Weideman to a three-week suspension, with top 10 picks Will Setterfield, Ben Hobbs and Elijah Tsatas all included.

Frankston won’t have to deal with Liston medallist Jarryd Lyons, who has been promoted by the Brisbane Lions alongside Shadeau Brain and Darcy Fort, but 100-game AFL forward Daniel Lloyd will cause headaches.

The Dolphins have issues of their own with Connor Riley out for six weeks with a groin injury and Noah Gown unwell, with small forward Jeremy Burton overcoming a series of injuries to play his first game of the year.

It will be a Lloyd-fest in the Lions’ forward line, with Frankston star Joe Lloyd a chance to line-up on his little brother and in-form Lions draftee Luke Lloyd after his starring role against the Zebras last week.

Northern Bullants have another debutant as they attempt to extend their Battle of Bell St winning run over Coburg to nine years at Piranha Park on Sunday, with West Preston-Lakeside teenager Aleks D’Arro coming in alongside high-flying forward Will Elliott, while the Lions will be without in-form midfielder Donovan Toohey due to concussion.

Carlton’s mid-season draftee Cooper Lord will play his first game for the club against Southport at IKON Park on Saturday, with Marc Pittonet, David Cuningham and Jack Carroll also included, but Tom Phillips out for three weeks with a thumb injury.

Amazingly, this will be the first time the unchanged Sharks have met the Blues since their very first Smithy’s VFL game back on April 17, 2021 – 60 games and 1134 days ago.

All matches in the 2024 Smithy’s VFL and VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.

Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will broadcast select matches live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7plus nationally. This week’s broadcast match is Port Melbourne vs Geelong Cats at ETU Stadium.
