Hawthorn Football Club has been advised by Campbell Brown he will not be extending his contract with the Club.

Chief Executive Stuart Fox said the Club was disappointed to have lost a premiership player of the quality of Campbell Brown, but the decision was Campbell’s, and his alone.

“While it is disappointing to lose such a quality player, all clubs know their lists are vulnerable over this period with the entry of two new clubs,” said Fox.

“The Club and our members have loved the way Campbell has gone about his footy while at Hawthorn and we feel we have invested heavily over the years in developing him into the respected footballer that he is today.”

“We thank him for his contribution while at Hawthorn.”

Brown was drafted with selection No.32 in the 2001 AFL National Draft and has played 159 games in nine seasons for the Hawks.

Brown earned an AFL Rising Star nomination in 2002 and went on to win a collection of Club and AFL awards including Peter Crimmins Medallist Runner-up (2007), All-Australian selection (2007), International Rules Series player (2006, 2008) and Hawthorn premiership player (2008).

In season 2010, in which Brown managed 17 games and seven goals, the hard-nosed utility played his 150th game in the brown and gold, and qualifies for Life Membership at the Club.
