FREMANTLE has added three debutants to its extended squad for Sunday's clash with Adelaide.

Greg Broughton has been named in the back pocket, while fellow first-gamers Zachary Clarke and Matt de Boer have been included on a seven-man bench.

Midfielder Clayton Hinkley also takes his place on the bench while the versatile Daniel Gilmore will play his first game since round seven last season after being named at half-forward.

Paul Duffield and Scott Thornton have been omitted and will play in the WAFL on Thursday night.

Football administration manager Brent Dawkins said Broughton was the only certain debutant, but all three were ready to play AFL football if they make the final 22.

"When you're developing a young side you want to play an exciting brand of football and bring these young guys in," he said.

"They've thrown at least one in and we'll see what happens at final selection."

Elevated rookie Broughton, 22, played each of Fremantle's pre-season games and has impressed as a small defender with Subiaco in the WAFL.

"He's got league experience and has played two solid games for Subiaco," Dawkins said.

"He's more of a mature rookie and has had that experience playing against bigger bodies already, rather than an 18-year-old coming in.

"Matt (de Boer) is similar. He played league football for Claremont last year, so he's also played against men before.

"He'll give us pressure up forward or on the ball, he's hard at the ball and has a bigger body that will assist him at the next level."

Dawkins said it would be exciting for the club if 19-year-old ruck prospect Clarke made the final 22.

Hinkley's inclusion may get lost in the hype surrounding the three debutants, but Dawkins said the midfielder was ready to build on his five-game debut season.

"Clayton's an exciting, quick midfielder who may get his chance this weekend," he said.

"He had a good game against Carlton in the NAB Challenge [game] and has since gone back and played with Swan Districts."
