GEELONG utility Mark Blicavs has roared into selection calculations and could play against Greater Western Sydney in Saturday night's crunch clash at Simonds Stadium.
Blicavs was initially targeting a return for the Cats' first final after suffering a fractured tibia and syndesmosis ankle damage after a tackle from Rory Sloane against Adelaide in round 18.
The tall midfielder has missed four weeks of football, but according to Geelong physio Mark Young is well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation.
The Cats would clinch a home qualifying final and second position on the ladder with a win over the Giants, with a likely re-match against GWS on the cards.
"'Blitz' is going really well, ahead of expectations actually," Young told the club's website.
"He's joined in the full footy (training) this week and moved really well.
"We'll test him again tomorrow (Thursday) in main training but he's a chance this weekend."
Skipper Joel Selwood is hopeful of returning for the Cats' qualifying final, as he continues to recover from a syndesmosis ankle injury sustained against Sydney in round 20.
Selwood is aiming to take part in a match simulation session the Cats are planning for the Saturday of the pre-finals bye week.
If the Geelong captain can prove his fitness in match practice, then he will likely be able to put up his hand for selection the week after.
The Cats are hoping forward Nakia Cockatoo can return some time during the finals.
Cockatoo has not played since round 19 after a recurrence of a hamstring injury that has plagued him through the second half of the season.
The dynamic youngster, who is highly regarded for the pressure he can put on opposition defenders, first injured his hamstring against the Western Bulldogs in round nine.
He missed one week, before returning to the team against Adelaide and then was sidelined for five weeks, in between the game against the Blues, after again hurting his hamstring in the clash with West Coast in round 13.
