COLLINGWOOD is interested in out-of-contract Adelaide defender Jake Lever if he chooses to leave the Crows at the end of the season. 

However Magpies football manager Geoff Walsh said he expects every Victorian club would consider recruiting the 21-year-old who is just one match shy of playing his 50th game. 

With a very strong midfield, the Magpies have been open about their need for a key defender as well as a player to lend support to emerging key forward Darcy Moore. 

Walsh told 3AW on Sunday ahead of the draw with the Crows that Lever was obviously on several clubs' recruiting radars. 

"If Jake Lever was available of course, I'm sure I would be one of a dozen or more clubs saying, 'Gee, he would be handy for us'," Walsh said. 

However, he said it remained long odds that Lever would depart Adelaide. 

"Possession is nine-tenths of the law. Most players stay with their club because mostly they are happy and mostly they are wanted."

Melbourne is one club understood to be interested in Lever while the Western Bulldogs have also been reported as interested in the intercept marking defender. 

Lever has said he is waiting for his manager Ned Guy to return from overseas before considering what the future might hold. 

The Crow is from Romsey in country Victoria and was drafted with pick No.14 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft. 

Meanwhile Walsh said the football department review he is leading was well down the track as he gathered information from all relevant parties in order to make recommendations. 

He said those recommendations would not be made until after the season had finished, reiterating the review was wide-ranging and would investigate every element of the football program.
