AFL TALENT manager Kevin Sheehan says he expects Geelong to look very closely at father-son prospect Jordon Bourke, whose dad Damian played 102 games for the Cats in the late 1980s and early '90s.

Bourke, who lives in Queensland, where his family has been based since Damian joined the Brisbane Bears in 1992, came to prominence during last year's NAB AFL Under-16 Championships.

"He kicked eight goals in a game against New South Wales and six against the Northern Territory," Sheehan said.

"He won what is called the Alan McLean Medal, for being the best and fairest player in division two."

Bourke's form has been inconsistent this season, but he returned to his best while playing for Queensland against Tasmania in the national under-18 championships last weekend.

"He took seven marks up forward and kicked 3.3, so if he'd been a bit more accurate he might have got five on the board in a fairly promising performance," Sheehan said.

"I think he's on the right track. He's a very tall boy, at 193cm, and he's got great hands so he's a tremendous mark.

"He's in an interesting position because he's actually zoned to Gold Coast as well as having a father-son option to Geelong.

"No doubt he'll be considering his options should an opportunity bob up."

Geelong has already gained AFL approval for Bourke to play at least two matches in its VFL team once the under-18 championships have finished.
