STAR Carlton forward Brendan Fevola believes Chris Judd is the man to captain the club during what looms as one of the most exciting periods in its long history.
With the Blues seemingly on the verge of the long road back towards finals football, the club announced a new six-man leadership group following a sharp hour-long training session at Princes Park on Wednesday morning.
Fevola and the club’s prized recruit from West Coast are among that leadership group and, when speaking to the media after training, the key forward was asked who he thought would be leading the Blues onto the field this season.
“I think Juddy will be captain,” he said.
“He’s got all the qualities … he’s proven himself, he’s a premiership captain, Norm Smith Medallist, Brownlow Medallist, he brings a lot to our group.”
While the Carlton match committee won’t decide who gets the top job until during or even after the Blues’ NAB Cup campaign, Judd appears at the top of the list of candidates.
The other five members of the leadership group – voted on by the Blues’ playing list – include Andrew Carazzo, Fevola, Heath Scotland, Kade Simpson and Nick Stevens.
Fevola, while throwing his support behind the former Eagle, also suggested a couple of other mates were well equipped to take charge of the playing group.
“There’s Nick Stevens as well who’s been here a few years now, he’s got all the qualities as well, and even a Kade Simpson who last year captained the last six games and did an awesome job with it,” Fevola said.
“So it’s a pretty tough decision for the board, but I think it’d either be out of Stevo or Juddy, and the other four will be under them and help them as best we can.”
As for the prospect of Judd, yet to play a match in the old dark navy blue, leading a club he is yet to play for, Fevola didn’t believe the players would have an issue with it.
“I don’t think it would matter,” he said.
