Other Incidents Assessed:
The match day report against Port Adelaide's Chad Wingard for making forceful high contact against North Melbourne's Ben Cunnington was assessed. The ball had been bounced in the centre and Cunnington was running on to the loose ball in a bid to win possession. Wingard comes from the side and has his hands down in front of him in a bid to gain possession. Cunnington fumbles the ball and turns into Wingard's path at the last moment, and the Port Adelaide player makes high contact and concedes a free kick. After viewing all available footage and speaking to the umpire who laid the report on the day, it was the view of the panel the high contact was caused by circumstances outside the control of player Wingard. No further action was taken.
The match day report against Melbourne's Luke Tapscott for making forceful high contact against Carlton's Kade Simpson was assessed. The ball was loose and Simpson was attempting to take possession. As the Carlton player gathered the ball, Tapscott met him with a bump. After viewing all available footage and speaking to the umpire who laid the report on the day it was the view of the panel there was no forceful high contact in the bump and no further action was required.
Contact between North Melbourne's Todd Goldstein and Port Adelaide's Justin Westhoff from the fourth quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. The ball was loose after a throw-in and Westhoff was bending over to pick up the ball. Goldstein, who has his eyes on the ball, turns in a bid to win possession at the same time as Westhoff moves downwards to the ball, making high contact to the Port Adelaide player. It was the view of the panel that Goldstein was making a legitimate attempt to win the ball and he had no real alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
Contact between Hawthorn's Lance Franklin and the Adelaide Crows' Andy Otten from the fourth quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. The ball was kicked to the leading Franklin by a Hawthorn player when Otten cuts across to the front of the contest to mark the ball. Franklin initially seeks to mark over the top of Otten and his arm then goes down over the Adelaide player's shoulder and on to the ball as Otten completes the mark. Franklin's momentum takes both players to ground and a 50 metre penalty was paid for the high contact. It was the view of the panel that the 50 metre penalty was sufficient penalty for Franklin’s action and no further action was required.
Contact between Fremantle's Lee Spurr and the Gold Coast's Karmichael Hunt from the second quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. Hunt was in the air completing a mark when he was bumped immediately by Spurr as he was coming to ground. It was the view of the panel the force used was not excessive in the circumstances and there was no high contact made. No further action was taken.
Contact between Richmond's Ty Vickery and the Geelong Cats' Joel Selwood from the second quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. The force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
