Senior coach Brad Scott kept a keen eye on proceedings at Arden Street today as his players went head-to-head in a competitive 13-a-side scratch match.

While most kept their cool in the blistering sun, the battle for spots is clearly heating up ahead of the NAB Cup.

“It was one of the hardest hit-out of the pre-season so far,” North captain Brent Harvey said.

“The young boys really got a feel for what a match is going to feel like.”

New recruit Cameron Richardson settled in at half-back and provided plenty of drive, Ayden Kennedy worked hard up forward and Shaun Atley showed why he is so highly regarded after applying his trade in the midfield.

The Roos' more experienced players weren't to be outdone though with Liam Anthony, Brent Harvey and Andrew Swallow all winning plenty of the ball.

Drew Petrie also continued his impressive return from injury pulling down several strong marks and provided support for the equally impressive Aaron Edwards in attack.

Just over a week remains until North Melbourne's first official intra-club match in Ballarat.
