ADMINISTRATORS, players, coaches and other "industry experts" will form a competition committee to help shape the next phase of the NAB AFL Women's competition.
The 14 clubs (the current 10 and the four set to join the competition in 2020) were briefed about the committee on Wednesday. They were told it would assist the AFL Commission with issues including the laws of the game, tribunal, the draft, list rules and player movement, fixturing, talent programs and expansion.
Clubs have been encouraged to nominate suitably skilled people for the committee.
The committee is expected to meet three times a year, with the first gathering slated for next month. Committee members will be limited to three-year tenures.
"We have had tremendous reaction to our first two seasons, overall growth of female participants around Australia has continued to thrive and now is the time to cultivate the talent pathways, grow audiences and commercial interest," the AFL's head of women's football Nicole Livingstone said.
"We see the AFLW competition committee as the next critical step for the women's game.
"We will be working closely with the AFLW clubs, including our expansion clubs. It's important that as we grow we work collaboratively and strive to create the best possible product for future generations," she said.
