GEELONG coach Chris Scott says he was keen for Brenton Sanderson to stay with the club until the end of its finals campaign.
But Scott insists he has no issue with the new Adelaide boss deciding to begin his job at the Crows immediately.
"Our whole organisation is ecstatic for him," Scott said on Tuesday.
"It's a fantastic vote of confidence in him as a coach, and he well and truly deserves it.
"It was important from our perspective that we back him in and the decision [to start his new job immediately] was completely his.
"He understood that our preference was for him to stay, but we were going to completely support him in whatever decision he chose."
Like Collingwood, which lost Mark Neeld to Melbourne last week, the Cats will have to complete their season without one of their senior assistant coaches.
However, Scott does not believe Sanderson's exit will significantly impact on his team's preparations to take on West Coast in a preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday.
"We would've preferred to have him available for another week and a half, but we respect his decision to move on," he said.
"He is now the coach of Adelaide, and we've got respect for that. He needs to throw himself into that position.
"But we think we've got the resources to cover him.
"We are going to be one man down, but we've got another couple that can come in and fill the breach and we've got the utmost confidence in them."
Scott worked alongside Sanderson for just one season, but has no doubt he will be a successful coach.
"He's a fantastic communicator," Scott said. "He gets his message across very clearly.
"He's been involved in a very high quality organisation for a number of years, so he knows what success looks like.
"He'll take a pretty uncompromising approach to his position at Adelaide, and it means they're another side we have to worry about even more next year."
