WESTERN Bulldogs forward Will Minson has apologised for an on-field sledge directed at Port Adelaide's Kane Cornes during Saturday night's clash in Darwin.

Minson is believed to have spoken to the Bulldogs football manager James Fantasia immediately after the game, then rung Cornes to apologise later on Saturday evening to apologise, leaving a message on the Power star's voicemail.

The Bulldogs released a statement confirming an incident occurred. Following the apology, the matter has been resolved, the club said. The Power also released a statement along the same lines, stating that the player and the club now consider the case to be closed.

Fantasia last night confirmed Minson's part in the exchange and that he had spoken with Cornes yesterday. "We've spoken to Will and he was remorseful about saying anything and has tried to make contact with Kane," he told The Age. "Subsequently, I have spoken to Kane as well, and the Port Adelaide Football Club and they were accepting of his apology and we're keen just to get on with it."
