Robbie Gray has been named in the Australian International Rules Squad for the two test series against Ireland later this month.

The elusive forward was the Power’s leading goalkicker for 2011 booting 32 games and managing to play all 22 games for the first time in his career following a string of injury-interrupted years.

Gray, 23, said he was looking forward to joining the young squad in preparation for the tests on October 28 at Etihad Stadium and November 4 at Metricon Stadium.

“It’ll be good experience to meet all the other boys and go through a few training sessions with the round ball,” Gray said.

“I haven’t really had any experience kicking the round ball, so I’m going to have to learn quickly at the kicking sessions next week.”

Gray, whose housemate Travis Boak has also played for Australia, described being selected to play for his country as a “massive honour”.

“Not many footballers get the chance to represent Australia, so to get that chance is pretty special to me.

“Boaky’s got his Australian guernsey framed and on the wall at home. So hopefully I’ll get that done at some point down the track, that’s if I can find any space on the wall with all Boaky’s stuff up there.”

Gray will join the squad next Sunday for a three day camp and the two test series over the following two weeks before reporting back to pre-season training at Alberton on November 10.
