BRISBANE has withstood a desperate final-quarter comeback by Adelaide to hang on by a single point at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon and continue its season of drought-breaking victories.

The Lions led by 26 points at the 10-minute mark of the final term but only barely hung on as the Crows kicked the final four goals of the game.

Eddie Betts kicked a goal as the final siren sounded to leave Brisbane with a 13.15 (93) to 13.14 (92) victory. 

It solidifies the Lions' spot in the top eight and moves them to a 6-3 record.

It's the first time Brisbane has defeated Adelaide since 2012, adding the Crows to a list of teams they have broken hoodoos against in 2019, including West Coast (first win since 2012), North Melbourne (2014) and Sydney (2009).

The Lions deserved their win, but only just. 

They led for most of the day – aside from a five-minute stint in the second quarter – but could not shake the persistent Crows.

Lachie Neale continued his imperious season, finishing with 39 disposals (22 contested) and 12 clearances. 

His work around the stoppages was first class.

Charlie Cameron came to life in his first match against his former club, kicking three goals, including a final-quarter gem where he paddled the ball to himself on the boundary line, regathered and kicked a left-foot snap at top speed.

Dan McStay also kicked three goals, while fellow tall forward Eric Hipwood kicked two.

Harris Andrews was also influential, taking eight marks as the defensive marshal.

Brisbane was able to force numerous turnovers from Adelaide's defence, taking intercept marks and kicking it back inside 50 for either scores or stoppages. 

After losing against the Western Bulldogs last week with a poor third term, Brisbane's intensity was right up for all four quarters, winning the tackle count 80-58.

But Adelaide can hold its head high and will lose no admirers for its performance.

Trailing heavily in the fourth quarter, the Crows were bold and even though were unlikely to get over the hump, never quit. 

Brad Crouch gathered 32 disposals and Rory Sloane 28.

Tom Lynch was exceptional with his 21 touches, one goal and two assists, but dropped a crucial unopposed chest mark in the dying minutes with his team trailing by eight points.

MEDICAL ROOM
Brisbane: No new injuries for the Lions, but veteran Luke Hodge was a late scratching with a tight calf. He completed the main training session on Thursday but woke up a bit tight on match morning. "Guys that are a little bit older, you've got to listen to the warning signs," coach Chris Fagan said. "Although there's nothing too serious there I'm pretty glad we didn't play him today."

Adelaide: The Crows have one concern with Kyle Hartigan coming off second best via some friendly fire with teammate Alex Keath in the third quarter. The two Crows collided at top speed as both had eyes only for the ball in a defensive 50 marking contest. Hartigan had his head split open, was taken off with concussion and did not return. Keath had a sore hip but played out the game.

Brisbane will look to continue its march towards the finals with the longest trip in the competition, heading west to take on Fremantle next Sunday at Optus Stadium at 3.20pm (AWST). The Crows host premier West Coast at Adelaide Oval next Saturday afternoon at 4.05pm (ACST).
