All the teams for Round 16 in the Smithy’s VFL.

Sydney’s hopes of pushing into the Smithy’s VFL top 10 have been bolstered by the return of four stars including Luke Parker from suspension for its ‘eight-point’ game against North Melbourne at Tramway Oval on Saturday.

The Swans’ quad boost comes as Collingwood centre half-forward Dan McStay prepares to make an ahead-of-schedule comeback from a knee reconstruction.

Southport has named star forward Jacob Townsend for his comeback game after his retirement at the end of 2022, Carlton selected Jack Martin after a long-term calf injury and George Hewett after a false start last week.

Meanwhile, Zac Fisher will play his first VFL game for the Kangaroos against the Swans, Mutaz El Nour’s long absence ends for Richmond and Williamstown will get hit for six by injury.

Parker has completed his six-week suspension and will resume his bid for an AFL recall alongside ruckman Peter Ladhams (concussion), inside-mid Gus Sheldrick (ankle) and key defender Harry Arnold (back), who will play his first game of the year, but small forward Jacob Konstanty is out with a foot injury.

McStay tore his ACL at Collingwood training in November but has been in full training for a month and will step out for reduced minutes against Geelong at AIA Vitality Centre on Saturday within just eight months.

His return could provide a mammoth boost to the Magpies’ AFL premiership chances, especially with Brody Mihocek out until at least the finals.

The Sharks, who host Box Hill Hawks in a mouthwatering contest at Fankhauser Reserve on Saturday, announced Townsend’s return before their bye last week and he will still have defenders nervous despite having not played at this level since 2022 – take Will Hayes’ amazing comeback for Carlton last week as Exhibit A.

Martin has played just one match this season, the thrilling Round 9 AFL win over Melbourne, having overcome knee and hamstring injuries to get back on the park only to strain his calf at training the following week, while Hewett ended up being the Blues’ held-over emergency last week – and Orazio Fantasia is also set to play after losing his AFL spot.

Fisher, who was traded to the Kangaroos from the Blues in the off-season, missed last week’s AFL win over Gold Coast with a foot issue and hasn’t been able to win his spot back, meaning he will line up in a VFL team that will be without the promoted Colby McKercher, injured mid-season No.1 pick Geordie Payne and rested goalkicker Sam Lowson.

El Nour hasn’t played since hurting his shoulder in Round 6, and his return will be much needed as the Tigers try to beat reigning premier Gold Coast for the second time this year, a Suns team weakened by AFL call-ups and injuries but boosted by the inclusions of Alex Sexton, Thomas Berry and James Tsitas.

Williamstown regains Nick Ebinger from a shoulder injury and Joel Fitzgerald from suspension as it tries to beat Sandringham for the first time in six years at DSV Stadium on Saturday, but the Seagulls have copped a massive whack, with six players suffering injuries in the road loss to Gold Coast last week, ripping their backline apart.

Star defender Fin O’Dwyer (quad), fellow tall Jovan Petric (quad) and small Harry Minton-Connell (hamstring) are all out, as are forwards Corey Rich (kidney) and Darby Henderson (concussion) and midfielder Toby Triffett (head laceration), with former Tasmanian Devils big man Heath Ollington to make his VFL debut.

Coburg has made five key changes ahead of its trip to take on Werribee at Avalon Airport Oval, with ruckman Cooper Keogh and gun midfielder Donovan Toohey returning alongside defender Rhys Galvin, while youngster Henry Brown has also been recalled with Montmorency small forward Ben Crick to debut.

Dangerous goalkicker Kyle Weightman, ruckman Liam Podhajski, defenders Harry Nolan and Ben Rigoni and forward Giacomo Thomas have all been sent back to local football to recharge the batteries ahead of the last third of the season.

The Tigers have recalled Stefan Radovanovic from injury in place of Jay Rantall in what is club stalwart Louis Pinnuck’s 100th VFL match.

In other big changes, Box Hill has lost Josh Ward to the AFL plus Jasper Scaife and Chad Wingard to injury for its clash against the Sharks, Ben Crocker and Charlie Dean join McStay in Collingwood’s team, Geelong regains Jed Bews, Emerson Jeka, Mitch Knevitt, Rhys Stanley and Mitch Edwards.

George Grey returns from his facial injury and Jack Newnes is also back for Frankston, Charlie Clarke and Alex Keath return from injury for Footscray, Ben Brown, Adam Tomlinson and Tom Fullarton boost Casey’s height profile for its game against Essendon, a team it hasn’t lost to in its past nine matches, with the Bombers regaining Sam Weideman.

There are also two sons-of-guns debutants, with Casey unveiling Noah Yze, the son of former Melbourne star and now Richmond coach Adem and the Northern Bullants giving a game to Isaac Barry, the son of Sydney 2005 premiership Leo.

Other debutants are Sandringham Dragons ruckman Brodie Findlay at the Zebras, Oakleigh Charger Zane Cochrane will celebrate his 18th birthday yesterday with a VFL call-up for Collingwood.

Barry has two mates starting their VFL careers in 20-year-olds Cooper Ellis from Lara and Montrose’s Liam Canny and Western Jets swingman Lachie McArthur will line up for Footscray and Gold Coast has three Academy boys playing their first games in Caleb Nancarrow, Koby Coulson and Dylan Patterson, plus ruckman Ned Moyle’s little brother Ben Moyle, who was previously VFL-listed at Carlton but has been playing VAFA reserves for Old Xaverians.

All matches in the 2024 Smithy’s VFL and VFLW seasons will be live streamed free via the AFL website, AFL Live Official App and VFL App.

Smithy’s VFL broadcast partner, the Seven Network, will broadcast select matches live and free on the Seven Network in Victoria and on 7plus nationally.
