The North Melbourne Football Club strongly refutes a report in today’s Age newspaper regarding the fixturing of its matches in 2010. The article, written by Caroline Wilson and Michael Gleeson, claims the club has;

“…held discussions with Sydney about playing a home game at the SCG next year under a proposal that would have seen the Roos earn about $400,000 for the match.”

Whilst we will not be discussing fixturing requests publically, I can categorically say the information published is incorrect. The North Melbourne Football Club has not and does not wish to sell home games to Sydney in 2010.

After investigating the possibility of playing a home game in Western Australia last year, the AFL indicated to us that Sydney would be a preferred option for such a deal. However, the club chose not to pursue that option.

Furthermore, a claim we are likely to make $700,000 from our home games this year is also wrong. The likely figure will be around the $150,000 mark and will be the lowest net return for the club in recent history due to the poor stadium deals.

I would like to reassure our members we will only look to move a home match if there is a significant strategic advantage.

Sincerely,

Eugene Arocca.
