THE TORONTO EAGLES have left the nation’s capital with a dominating and destructive win against the Ottawa Swans, defeating them by 120 points.
The Eagles were listed as strong favourites, but nobody would have thought they would have controlled the up and coming Swans as much as they did.
"This was a great performance by the team once again," said coach Aaron Falcioni. "We have continued on from last week and have been disciplined in playing four quarters of football.”
The Eagles came into the game with a small list and missing a good amount of starters, yet the players stepped up to fill the voids. Second and first year players were able to slip into the side and control their positions with hard work and determination.
“It was fantastic to get out there and play my first senior game,” commented Eagles rookie, Ryan McNabb. “To get a win in my first game is an amazing feeling, there’s definitely a lot I will take out of this game.”
The Swans struggled all day in the very one sided affair, finding it hard to keep up with the much stronger Eagles. It took one and a half quarters for them to get their first goal and only registered two goals for the whole match.
No one can discount the Swans' efforts but their biggest problem area was their kick outs, as too many times they were kicking straight to their opponent. This is something they will have to work on before round three.
The Eagles defence was also causing a problem for the Swans, limiting all options up forward.
Eagles defender Christopher Gray said the Toronto defence was strong.
"But I think their constant errors were what let them down around the field."
The Eagles controlled every quarter against the Swans, even keeping them scoreless in the final quarter.
Ajit Alister was again in some great form, controlling the taps and covering a lot of ground. New Australian recruit, Ashley Loxton was also a strong contributor, providing some great movement around the ground and Mark Peterson also performed well.
This was another exceptional performance by everyone involved and in what could be classed as great team effort. This weekend the Toronto Eagles will have a week off due to the Victoria Day long weekend. The Eagles will be back in action on May 29 against the Central Blues.
