Following the fun of St Kilda Football Club’s fans training day at Moorabbin Oval on Tuesday 20 December, another exciting event took place on this site the very next day.

On Wednesday 21 December, the fences along Linton Street which line the parameter of Moorabbin Oval were taken down to encourage further use by local residents and the wider community.

St Kilda Football Club relocated their training and administration headquarters from Junction Oval to Moorabbin Oval in 1965, playing home games at the venue until 1992.

While the Saints headquarters are now based at the Linen House Centre Frankston, Moorabbin Oval will always be the original heartland of the Club and is still the home of the Club’s gaming and retail arms.

“The Football Department still utilises our training facilities at Moorabbin. It continues to be an important part of our past, as well as our future,” explained Anthony Moore, St Kilda Football Club’s General Manager, New Business.

The fences, which enclosed the Oval, were in place when the St Kilda Football Club was playing in the VFL and will be removed over the coming months as part of a wider plan to rejuvenate Moorabbin Oval.

“The commencement of their removal is the first small step the Club is taking to reactive Moorabbin Oval. It’s hoped that, overtime, the site will once again be a vibrant space which provides significant community benefits to grassroots football clubs and the wider community.” said Moore.

“St Kilda Football Club are looking forward to continuing our discussions with Kingston Council and local sporting groups on how we can reinvigorate Moorabbin Oval,” concluded Moore.
