Talia joins Crow leaders but no captaincy call yet
All Australian defender joins six-man leadership group for Adelaide
ADELAIDE'S reigning club champion Daniel Talia has been promoted into the club's leadership group for the first time, replacing Sam Jacobs and Richard Douglas.
Talia joins 2014 members Nathan van Berlo, Patrick Dangerfield, Rory Sloane, Taylor Walker and Scott Thompson in the six-man group to lead in 2015.
Coach Phil Walsh said that while each member of the group were 'team players', leadership would be expected to come from every player on the club's list.
“Each member of the group possesses a unique leadership style and as a group they complement each other well,” Walsh said.
“All of them have a strong presence and what is best for the team sits at the forefront of their minds.
"It is also important to remember that leadership doesn’t start and finish with these guys, and everyone is expected to fulfill their potential in this area.”
Walsh is yet to select a captain for the 2014 season but the club anticipates he will do so early next year.
Walsh said the 2012 NAB AFL Rising Star winner was an obvious inclusion in the leadership group.
“Daniel has elite standards with his preparation and training, and is reliable both on and off the field,” Walsh said.
“With the recent retirement of Ben Rutten, he has eagerly stepped up to lead what will be a young defensive group.”
The coach is yet to select a captain for the 2014 season but the club anticipates he will do so early next year.
Talia said any one of the six players in the leadership group were capable of skippering the side but stopped short of endorsing one candidate in particular.
"It's not up to the players, it's up to Phil and the board [as to who is named captain] but any one of those six guys, myself included … could be captain," Talia said.
"It's not up to me, whoever Phil and the board chooses there will obviously be a reason for it so we'll just wait and see."
