The entire Lions playing list and coaches donned Santa hats at the Gabba today as they handed over the finished hampers on behalf of the Club to Logan East Community Centre President Geoff Leeming.
Each hamper is valued at around $300 and includes a variety of groceries, a football and four free tickets to a Lions home game in 2011.
Lions Chief Executive Steven Wright said the initiative was just a small way for the Club to give back to the community and help support families in need this Christmas.
"The Christmas period is a time for giving and our Club plays an important role in supporting local communities throughout Brisbane and Queensland," Mr Wright said.
"It is also a further sign of our support and commitment to the Logan area in particular."
Logan East Community Centre President Geoff Leeming said the Lions' generous contribution would go a long way to ensuring more families enjoy a merry Christmas this year.
"We couldn't believe our good fortune when the Lions delivered the good news," Mr Leeming said.
"We struggle every year and usually only get to help between 100-150 families at Christmas time. Now we'll be supporting up to 200 families thanks to the Lions' contribution."
"Most of the people we support are on emergency relief and can't afford to feed themselves or their families. These are the kinds of families who will be receiving the hampers," he said.
"It also provides an opportunity for disadvantaged families to attend a Lions game at the Gabba next year which is something they would never have experienced before."
The Lions' commitment to the community also saw the Club host a free BBQ at Giffin Park, Coorparoo last Thursday where fans were able to watch the Lions players train while being entertained with food, activities, giveaways and competitions.
