In Nick Maxwell’s second year as skipper he was a major figure in the club's premiership success both on and off the field.  He contributed in 22 games, missing only a month of football due to a calf injury in the middle of the year.  ??

The captain’s role as a loose man down back highlighted his ability to read the play and showcased his teamwork, assisting many one-on-one contests.  His goal-line dive in the dying moments of the first grand final will never be forgotten.  The following week Maxwell took 11 marks, most of them in front of St Kilda’s forward line, which was crucial to limiting the Saints to 52 total points.

2010 highlights

Round two v Melbourne: Tied his previous career best with 12 marks and had a season-high six tackles in the one-point win.  Scored his highest AFL dream team score of the season with 107 points.

Grand Final: Who can forget Maxwell’s final ten minutes to save the game for his club?  A goal line save and a courageous mark typified the on-field sacrifices he has made to this club this year.  His desperation was evident post match when he famously described the draw as ‘a joke’.
