KURT Tippett is expected to tell Adelaide officials that he will be leaving the Crows and it may not be to return home to Queensland.

"We're told he'll tell the Adelaide Crows this afternoon (Monday) that he is out and we're confident to put our names to that," Craig Hutchison said on AFL.com.au's Gillette AFL Trade Radio on a dramatic first day of the Gillette AFL Free Agency Period.

The Crows have tried hard to get a definitive answer from the star forward and have pressed the matter in recent days.

"Adelaide sought [an answer] officially yesterday and again today and have not yet got one from Kurt Tippett's management," Damian Barrett added on Trade Radio.

A move to the Brisbane Lions or Gold Coast is no certainty, however, with a number of other clubs reportedly in the mix.

"There are developments. It's not as clear cut as the south east Queensland options we thought were the case for him," Barrett said.

"There's definitely other interested parties and this could play out as the Mitch Clark thing did last year, whereby he said he wanted to go home to Perth and took a better offer to go elsewhere and Kurt Tippett does have those options on the table."

Recently crowned premiers the Sydney Swans shape as a potential destination for Tippett.

"The Gold Coast Suns thought they were home but we believe there is interest from the Sydney Swans and another club that could make this much like Mitch Clark last year," Hutchison said.

The Swans "approached [Tippett's] management sometime before the Grand Final", according to Barrett.

Tippett is not a free agent.
