GOLD Coast, Geelong, the Brisbane Lions and Richmond have decided against using their end-of-first round compensation picks at this month's NAB AFL Draft.

As revealed on afl.com.au on Thursday, North Melbourne will be the only club to use its pick, which at No.27 will follow West Coast's priority selection.

The Roos, who will strengthen their position in the pecking order for what has been deemed a strong talent pool, will now head into the draft with picks 17, 27, 70 and 72.

Gold Coast (second-round compensation) and West Coast (third-round) also confirmed with the AFL ahead of Friday's deadline that they would bank their later picks.

The clubs were all in a position to activate the compensation picks they received - either directly from the Suns or during the player exchange period - but can store them for any of the four drafts until 2014.

Clubs will only be able to activate the picks by notifying the League ahead of those drafts.

The Roos received their selection from Hawthorn in a deal for ruckman David Hale. The Hawks had lost defender Campbell Brown to the Suns.
