GOLD Coast is close to re-signing key defender Rory Thompson, but no wiser on the future of Charlie Dixon, says Suns coach Rodney Eade.

Out-of-contract Dixon has been the centre of speculation for months after failing to accept an offer put to him by the Suns.

On Saturday night the powerhouse forward returns from an ankle injury to play Port Adelaide – one of the clubs reportedly keen to lure him away from Metricon Stadium.

"His manager has said it'll be at the end of the season so we're no more advanced or aware of what's happening," Eade said.

"We have (offered a deal), but we're not moving on that.

"We're going forward. We know where we're headed, and people who want to be part of that, that's great, if they don't, well, they don't."

Conversely, Eade seems far more optimistic about retaining Thompson and much-improved midfielder Aaron Hall.

Thompson, a Southport product, has been at the Suns since day one and has become an integral part of their backline, but injuries have disrupted his 2015.

Eade said his contract was "not far away".

"He's said he wants to stay and we want to keep him," he said.

"It's just a matter of Scotty (list manager Scott Clayton) and the manager being able to talk, which discussion are going on at the moment, so hopefully next week we'll have an answer.

Hall's remarkable transformation appears to have won him a new deal.

The Tasmanian was shifted to the midfield five weeks ago and has been a revelation, averaging 27 disposals, five clearances and five tackles through that stretch.

Eade said stand-in skipper Michael Rischitelli was also close to re-signing.
