NORTH Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein is confident young midfielder Jack Ziebell will be able to overcome his latest injury setback and return a stronger player.

Ziebell looks likely to miss at least six weeks after x-rays confirmed a fracture to his tibia in the same leg he broke in round 12 last year.

While he's not expected to require an operation, the injury is a cruel blow for the rising star after a broken fibula ended his season last year.

He also underwent surgery to correct a hip problem.

In January this year, and after a scare with the healing bone, Ziebell said it would have been "pretty devastating" to be forced into rehab once again.

However, his teammate Goldstein believes the former top-10 draft pick is more than capable of coping with another stint on the sidelines.

"He might find it a bit tough but he's a strong player," he told afl.com.au after the Roos' 35-point loss to Geelong.

"Mentally, for a young guy he's very strong so I think he'll bounce back fine from it.

"He'll just have to do his rehab and get back as soon as possible.

"It's just footy. You don't want injuries to happen but it's a contact sport so it's going to happen and you've just got to ride with the bumps and hopefully he's alright."

The injury was sustained in the first quarter when Travis Varcoe ran past Ziebell and collected him on the inside of his leg with his knee.

It wasn't the only disappointing result for the Roos with them running out losers despite the Cats missing Cameron Ling, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson and Tom Hawkins.

"There's no point dropping our bundle just over one loss," Goldstein said.

"Some good signs came out of today and some poor ones.

"We'll go back and have a look at the match review and learn from it and get better against Sydney next week."

Goldstein said the Roos could leave Skilled Stadium with plenty of upside given the way they were able to claw a 58-point margin back to under six goals.

"The fact that we didn't let it blow out is a positive," he said.

"We've had a few games against the top sides this year that we've let blow out to a 10-goal loss so it was really good the boys fought it out in the last quarter and managed to peg it back to a more respectable score.

"In the last quarter we cut out some of the silly mistakes we were making earlier in the game and that was really the big difference.

"We had some poor decisions made, like from myself and a few others, and they cost us early."
