Damian Barrett says when it comes to mid-season trade speculation, you can't always take a football club on its word.
After news broke of Orazio Fantasia expressing a desire to return to his home state, Adelaide, Essendon was quick to deny the report, made exclusively by AFL.com.au's Marc McGowan.
Barrett said clubs and players are quick to defend its interests rather than being honest.

"I don't know the specifics of this Orazio Fantasia story, but Adam Treloar called a press conference in 2015 after we went with it on The Footy Show, that he was going to go and go to Collingwood. And he denied it that moment," Barrett said.
"Dayne Beams, last year, the Herald Sun spent a week denying Dayne Beams was going to leave Brisbane and go to Collingwood. These things change. Mitch McGovern got denied.
"You know it's going to be denied if it's a trade story."
