Highly respected Collingwood premiership midfielder Luke Ball has been appointed vice-president of the AFL Players' Association.

Ball will support newly appointed president and Brisbane Lions veteran Luke Power, who replaces the recently retired Brett Burton.

The new appointments were announced at the final AFLPA Board meeting for the year this week.

Ball, 26, said he was looking forward to working with Power and the AFLPA Board to protect and advance the interest of all players.

"We will be focused on ensuring the guys who put on the show are properly recognised for the central role they play in the success of the game," he said.

Ball played 24 games for the Magpies in his first season at the club in 2010, including both the drawn grand final and grand final replay, after crossing from St Kilda at the end of 2009. He has played a total of 166 AFL games since debuting in 2003.

The 2001 second overall draft pick finished fifth in the Magpies' best-and-fairest this year, and also was the recipient of the Gavin Brown Award for most desire indicators, an award held in high esteem by the playing group.

During his seven-year stint at the Saints, Ball won a best-and-fairest, was named All Australian once, and captained the club for two seasons.
