The West Coast Eagles supports the AFL and its quest to develop a free agency policy which will come into effect from the 2012 season.

There is, however, much of the detail to be finalised - particularly in relation to the level of compensation when players move to a club of their choice. The West Coast Eagles looks forward to being involved in the process of developing the policy further in this respect.

“The policy appears to be balanced and allows the clubs to at least match the offer for any of its players who are within the top 25 percent of its total player payments structure,” chief executive officer Trevor Nisbett said today.

“We discussed the free agency policy among the club’s senior coaches and staff today and believe that the AFL proposal has the basic fundamentals of a structure which should work well for the industry.

“We will continue to work through this document and look forward to making future recommendations to the AFL in fine-tuning the document.”
