CARLTON captain Chris Judd will enter the season confident in his fitness levels despite an injury-interrupted pre-season.

Judd, who missed the NAB Cup pool matches against Collingwood and Richmond and both the Blues' intra-club games, will have his first hit out of the year against Greater Western Sydney in Canberra on Saturday, expecting to play two-thirds of the match.

But the 2010 Brownlow medallist said his delayed appearance on the practice match circuit was no cause for concern.

"I've probably had a bit of an injury-interrupted pre-season … but having been in the system for 10 years I'm as fit as I need to be," Judd told CFC TV on Friday.

"I've had a good run for the last couple of months and I'm looking forward to putting a few different structures in place that the club's been working on, and also to playing against some pretty talented kids from Western Sydney," he said.

Judd revealed he would play "66 per cent" of the match against the Giants, before lining up in the Blues' remaining two NAB Challenge games.

"I'll just ease into it this week and then have two full hit outs, and then a week off and into round one," he said.

"Every year I tout the idea of just playing two warm-up games, but we'll wait and see. I think I'll probably play the three again this year."

The 27 year-old said Carlton's pre-season had been the most gruelling in some time, with the young list beginning to mature.

"It's been our heaviest workload we've had under the current fitness regime, and probably the heaviest one we'll have under the current fitness regime," Judd said.

"The players are getting to a certain age now and a certain stage in their development where the pre-seasons will probably start getting a little bit lighter and punchier."

Having missed the first three weeks of last season through suspension, Judd is itching to run out with his teammates for their round one assignment against Richmond.

"It's always very hard to watch your footy team playing at the best of times, but when your body's sound it's an even harder task," he said.

"So I'll be looking forward to being out there from the start."
