BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss has thrown his support behind Monday night football in the lead up to tonight’s Collingwood and St Kilda blockbuster at Docklands.

Voss said he would love nothing more than to watch Monday night football on a regular basis, particularly as Queensland had no live free-to-air coverage of Friday night games.

“On Sunday afternoon it saves me sitting on the couch for about eight hours, I can now just sit there for four,” Voss said.

“They’ve had the three games on Sunday afternoons which has been quite a lot, one game after the other game after the other.”

Voss said the AFL’s reach would increase significantly if Monday night became a regular part of the fixture.

“I think it will have more impact if they decide to just spread out the weekend a little bit more and have Monday night football,” he said.

Plenty of interest surrounds how supporters will take to the scheduling of Monday night's game.

It is a home fixture game for the crowd-pulling Pies and, given St Kilda's unbeaten start to the season, a crowd in excess of 40,000 would not surprise.

But Collingwood captain Nick Maxwell was was wary of setting expectations on crowd figures when he spoke to the media last week.

"It's probably different for the supporters who won't be used to something like this," the Magpies skipper said.
