The Cats started promisingly in the wet conditions kicking the first three goals of the game including two by young forward Dan McKenna. But after quarter time the Cats only managed to kick another 1.3 as the battle hardened Magpies outfit took control.
Trent West stood up for the Cats in defence as he kept Anthony Rocca to two goals and only a handful of touches. With names such as Rocca, Marty Clarke, Anthony Corrie, Chris Bryan and many more with AFL experience in the side, the Magpies side looked a lot more senior than the Cats one which possessed many young local league players.
Whilst ruckman Shane Mumford was clearly Geelong's best with his trademark second efforts and attack on the ball, lesser lights Casey Tutungi, Jack Hollmer and Jarrod Westwood stood up when needed.
The Cats will now play the Box Hill Hawks in an elimination final on Sunday at TEAC Oval. The game will be shown on ABC1 at 1.00pm.
