The Cats are undefeated and on top of the ladder at the half way point of the season, but the word out of Skilled Stadium is that there is plenty of improvement needed if a legitimate challenge for the flag is to be sustained.

So how does a team seek to improve when it wins every week? According to Steve Johnson the way to do that is to review each game as if the Cats had lost.

“We go in on Mondays and look at what we can do better,” Johnson told Fairfax radio.

“You have to (review) games like we lost by a couple of goals. We know where we are at. The key is that when we win you can not look over the things that we need to improve.

“We have been lucky a couple of times and that shows we have a lot to improve on. We are under no illusions. We have played games in patches and we are still working on the things that Chris (Scott) has bought in.”

Four of Geelong’s wins have come by less than a goal - St Kilda by one point, Carlton by two points, Collingwood by three points and Hawthorn by five points. So Johnson and the Cats methodology has some merit. After all, any of those wins could easily have been a loss.
