DARCY Vescio is enjoying her footy again after a tough AFL Women's season.
Carlton had come into this past season regarded by some as a premiership favourite, having recruited star Brisbane forward Tayla Harris and Collingwood best and fairest Nicola Stevens after finishing fourth in 2017.
However, it was not to be for the Blues.
They won their first two matches but lost their last five, finishing last and parting ways with coach Damien Keeping.
Captain Brianna Davey tore the ACL in her right knee late in the round two win over Greater Western Sydney and required a knee reconstruction.
Vescio, who has re-signed with the club, said she had felt the pressure as the season progressed but is enjoying playing at VFLW level with Carlton under less scrutiny.
"It's been really fun. I've enjoyed playing football with a lot less pressure and eyes on you. There's a group of [players] who are just VFL [and not AFLW] girls and they've been really fun to be around," Vescio said.
"They bring a fresh, new energy around the club and they're really willing to learn."
The 24-year-old was the AFLW's leading goalkicker in its inaugural season last year with 14 but managed just five goals this season.
She has booted five in three VFLW games this season.
"We had a pretty good season in year one, and we had a few big recruits [in 2018], so we did have expectations on us," Vescio said.
"I think we placed some expectations on ourselves too, so when the season didn't go as planned, the pressure did mount.
"Pressure's part of the game and we definitely come out of this season having learnt a lot more than if the season had gone smoothly, so I think we're in a good position."
