His Bomber teammates showed considerable grit and resolve to eke out the draw against Carlton despite the first-quarter loss to likely season-ending knee injuries of Jason Winderlich and Courtenay Dempsey.
And after sharing ruck duties with Patrick Ryder, Bellchambers is relishing the likely return of David Hille for next Monday's Anzac Day blockbuster against Collingwood at the MCG.
"Yeah. A good week, I suppose," he said in the Bomber rooms after the match.
"It was disappointing to get the draw but it sets us up for a massive game against Collingwood next week."
Bellchambers worked hard for 23 hit-outs against the Blues and chipped in with goal during the bright opening by the Bombers, who led by three goals at quarter time.
But Essendon coach James Hird is convinced the Dons are a better side when Hille is there and pending a successful VFL hit out on Sunday, Hille is expected back in the side for Anzac Day.
"He's an important player in the side and I hope gets back for us pretty quickly," he said.
Two men down by quarter time, the Bombers could have been excused for dropping this one, but the mood in the rooms was quite upbeat afterwards, suggesting that the two points gained for the draw was better than the two points lost.
"You never think like that," Bellchambers said when asked whether was doom and gloom in the camp after the early setbacks.
"It's obviously not what you want in the first quarter, but the boys really grouped together after that and held on for the draw."
And he is looking forward to Monday's video review with the coach, if only to re-live the fantastic match-saving tackle by Dustin Fletcher on Carlton's Jeff Garlett that prevented what would have been the match-winning goal by the Blues.
"He's pretty amazing, isn't he?" Bellchambers said.
"He's the oldest bloke in the league and still runs around like that holding our backline together. It was an amazing effort from him today."
"I didn't see the tackle, but I'm sure it will get played a fair bit around the club this week," he said.
