Wright roamed between the middle of the ground and the forward line against the Giants, ending the match with four goals and plenty of possessions.
"We won by a fair bit, so it's always good when there's plenty of ball coming into attack," he said in the change-rooms at the Lavington Sports Ground.
Having played 24 games, mostly across half-forward, since he was drafted in 2008, the boy from the tiny town of Katamatite in north-east Victoria is confident he has the ability to emerge as a top-line onballer in coming years.
"I was pretty inconsistent last year," admitted Wright, who made 20 appearances for North in 2010, booted 23 goals, and won a NAB Rising Star nomination.
"I was just trying to find my way, but this year I want to push into the midfield, although it's pretty tough with some of the boys in there.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity against the Giants and hopefully I get more in the future."
While the inclusion of GWS in the practice match series has drawn some criticism, Wright says the North Melbourne players were happy to take on the AFL's newest club.
"Every time we pull on the Kangas jumper we have a big emphasis on giving it everything you have," the 20-year-old said.
"Our preparation didn't change [because we were playing GWS]. I thought we were good in the first half, but we dropped away in the second."
The Kangaroos set up their win by booting 12 goals in the opening two quarters, but they managed only six more after the long break, and were outscored by the Giants in the final term.
"We did take a lot of blokes off, but that's no excuse," Wright said. "We've got a game plan and we didn't stick to it.
"It was really disappointing that last half, but we've still come away with a win and we'll take that into next week."
Wright was impressed by the spirit shown by the youngsters in the GWS team.
"They're all goers," he said. "I think they nearly started a fight at one stage, so it's good to see they've got a bit of fight about them.
"They should be alright in the coming years."
North Melbourne will play its final NAB Challenge game against the Western Bulldogs at Ballarat's Eureka Stadium on Saturday.
Sam Wright is a $248,700 forward in the Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.
