COLLINGWOOD will receive a round-three NAB AFL Draft selection as compensation for losing 200-game ruckman Josh Fraser to Gold Coast as an uncontracted player.

Fraser, who was continually overlooked at Collingwood this season and missed selection in both grand finals, joined the Suns on Thursday alongside Brisbane Lions utility Jared Brennan.

The Magpies' compensation draft pick can be activated following their third-round selection at this year's draft, or in any of the following four meets.

There is speculation the pick could be used in a deal to secure Fremantle full-back Chris Tarrant, who wants to finish his career with the Magpies after four seasons in WA.

Fraser, the No.1 selection at the 1999 national draft, played just nine games this season, with Sydney Swans recruit Darren Jolly and journeyman Leigh Brown preferred as a ruck combination.

The 28-year-old was made to wait anxiously to play his 200th AFL game, with a suspension to Brown eventually seeing him notch the milestone in round 22.

Gold Coast's six other uncontracted signings are Nathan Bock, Nathan Krakouer, Michael Rischitelli, Campbell Brown, Jarrod Harbrow and Gary Ablett.
