THE BRISBANE Lions have secured a host of draft selections, including pick No.5, as a result of utility Jared Brennan joining Gold Coast.

Brennan was given the all-clear to become a Sun on Thursday once the Lions, who had already lost best and fairest winner Michael Rischitelli to the AFL's 17th team, agreed to part ways with a second uncontracted player.

The Lions were given two end-of-first-round draft picks as compensation for losing Brennan and Rischitelli.

The club has retained its compensation for Rischitelli, but on-traded the pick received for Brennan back to Gold Coast along with selections 10 and 48.

It has received Gold Coast's No.5 and 25 picks in return, along with West Perth midfielder Rohan Bewick, who was pre-listed by the Suns as part of the deal.

Bewick, the nephew of Essendon premiership player Darren Bewick, averaged 20 disposals and a goal in the WAFL this season and also took out West Perth's rookie of the year award.

Lions national talent manager Rob Kerr said the club was pleased to strengthen its position in next month's NAB AFL Draft.

"Being able to secure pick No.5 proved a significant upgrade for us. There will be some elite talent among the early selections this year and we were determined to push up into the early bracket to be certain of drafting one of those players," Kerr said.

"It really places this club in a strong position for what will be a compromised draft. We are now looking at having four selections in the top 30 or so, which gives us the option to possibly retain the compensation pick we received for Michael Rischitelli to use in the future."

However, the Lions could gain more picks with dashing wingman Justin Sherman declaring he wants to be traded to the Western Bulldogs.

Ruckman Mitch Clark has also expressed a desire to return to Western Australia, but it's unlikely a suitable deal will be reached before Monday's 2pm deadline.

The departure of Rischitelli, Brennan and possibly Sherman will ease the pressure on the Lions' bulging salary cap.
