KEY forward Matt Taberner has recommitted to Fremantle for another two years.
Taberner came out of contract at the end of this season, a year when he managed just eight senior games and kicked 11 goals.
But the 24-year-old finished 2017 strongly, showing encouraging signs in Freo's final three games before starring in Peel Thunder's finals campaign that ended with back-to-back WAFL flags.
The Victorian's form attracted interest among clubs in his home state, where teams such as Collingwood, Richmond, Western Bulldogs and Carlton are in the market for tall forwards.
But Taberner has turned his back on a potential move home to re-sign with Fremantle until the end of 2019.
A mature-age recruit in the 2013 rookie draft, the former Murray Bushranger has played 53 games in his five seasons at Fremantle, including a career-high 17 matches in 2016.
His first game this year, in round seven against Essendon, was his best. He kicked four goals and took seven contested marks and six marks inside forward 50 to help Freo to a 37-point win.
Taberner also impressed when recalled for the final three home and away rounds. Although he only kicked three goals in that stretch, he took 23 marks, 11 of them contested and nine inside forward 50.
In the WAFL this year, Taberner kicked 41 goals from 16 games to finish ninth on the competition's goalkicking table.
Taberner starred in Peel's second semi-final win over Subiaco with four goals and 16 marks, and was again among the Thunder's best players in their Grand Final triumph over Subiaco, kicking an equal team-high two goals and taking seven marks.
