With only a matter of hours before North's initial squad of 25 is named to take on Hawthorn, kangaroos.com.au takes a look at who might be pushing for selection.
Shaun Atley
North's first pick in the 2010 National Draft has the ability to break the lines and can be damaging with his pace out of a pack.
Cameron Delaney
Still very raw, but clearly talented, Delaney has certainly developed nicely in a key-defensive role at VFL level. With North's array of defensive options he might still need more time at the Roosters.
Luke Delaney
The strongly-built backman proved a great addition to the North Melbourne team in his first few games before falling out of favour. Lance Franklin would be a massive challenge, but his performance against Jonathan Brown suggests he's capable.
Cruize Garlett
The nuggety midfielder has proven himself as a ball-winner at VFL level, but hasn't been able to crack the senior side since round nine. After another 39 possessions he could get his chance this week.
Nathan Grima
Grima is another potential match-up for the dangerous Franklin. It's been a tough year for the defender with back surgery in the pre-season and a broken finger but a couple of weeks in the VFL has brought back his confidence.
Jamie Macmillan
A late withdrawal from last week's side with a virus, Macmillan now has a challenge on his hands to regain his spot in a side that pushed Carlton all the way to finish. If Brad Scott is searching for run out of defence, he could be the player to provide it.
Ben McKinley
Two goals in the VFL is a modest return, but when you consider he kicked six behinds as well, his contribution can't be ignored. Capable of taking a big mark inside 50, he'll find it hard to squeeze in given the form of North's power forwards, but will be doing all he can to impress at training.
Daniel Pratt
A proven performer at the top level, Pratt has been edged out due to the plethora of options at Brad Scott's disposal. He's been solid at VFL level, and his experience could be handy against one of the league's best teams.
Ben Ross
Ross has looked close to a recall on several occasions this year, and his run and carry could see him in the mix again to take on the Hawks.
Lindsay Thomas
Brad Scott threw him the challenge to perform at VFL level, and Thomas has responded in the best possible way on the scoreboard and with his defensive pressure. Nine goals last week means a recall is imminent.
Ben Warren
Many considered Warren a little unlucky to be dropped from the senior side after he looked to be hitting some good marking form against the Lions. One of the hardest-working players in the team, one thing he always gives is a contest to give his team the best chance to score.
