COLLINGWOOD big man Josh Fraser is looking forward to spending more time in attack next season following the club's recruitment of premiership ruckman Darren Jolly.

The 27-year-old expects to still be given opportunities on the ball, but believes Jolly's addition will enable him to add another dimension to his game.

"Hopefully I'll be sharing the ruck duties and pushing forward, playing half-forward and doing my role for the team," he said on Wednesday.

"It just adds another string to our bow and frees me up a little bit.

"It's not all doom and gloom. It's a real positive move, getting Jolls into the club, and hopefully it will be the edge that takes us that extra step forward."

Fraser was the first player to be notified of the Magpies' intentions to recruit Jolly from the Sydney Swans and welcomed the news with open arms.

A self-imposed media ban helped him avoid speculation that he was on the verge of being traded.

Fraser, who is still recovering from post-season knee surgery, believes he is capable of launching into full training before Christmas.

"The two days I've been back, I've been flying," he said.

"Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.

"I'm going to have an indifferent start but hopefully towards Christmas, I'll really start to crank things up and post-Christmas hopefully be in full swing.

"I'm looking forward to a big year ahead."

Fraser is reported to be skipping the Magpies' upcoming altitude training trip to Arizona and will instead complete his rehabilitation in Melbourne.
